Paris in flames...

Paris was in a tense mood today. No I’m talking about the end of campaigning for the French elections but rather of the more important Paris Hilton. Once again the wheels of justice have rolled over the super rich “Ms. Hilton”, who was sentenced to 45 days in jail for driving with a suspended driver’s license. Los Angeles mayor Antonio Viallraigosa, in retaliation to accusations about the severity of the sentence said “Well she better be happy that she is alive. You know the LAPD cannot distinguish the driver’s color especially when the car has tinted windows. Ms. Hilton was very fortunate.”

Ms. Renuka Choudhary, the women’s and child welfare union minister of India, called this sentence an outrage against all women. She also said “I hope women all over the world rise up against this atrocity. Men must suffer the consequences of their actions. These pigs need to be put back in their pens. How can they punish a woman for driving with a suspended driver’s license when it was a MAN who made the rule that women need licenses to drive? Moreover it was a MAN who invented the car. So men are responsible for all the problems of women.” Considering Ms. Choudhary’s infinite intellect and compassion for men this is a very meek reaction.

(Check out her new law. I did not write a blog about this because I’m still awestruck by her stupidity. No not Paris Hilton’s. www.youtube.com/watch?v=in_4QhWQaq4)

Please tell me you are kidding about Ms. Renuka Choudhary. Or at least that she did not fully understand the Paris Hilton story. I prefer for stupid women to be anti-feminist, for this very reason.

Cara
The statement to focus on Renuka Choudary's stupidity and disliking for men (Apparently she has never met me). She has come up with idiotic laws that deny "Due Process" to men. I understand that women need to be protected and but not at the cost of what was promised in the Indian constitution. Moreover there were laws before this law, that were meant to protect domestic violence victims but they were not used effectively. Nobody wants to take care of the root problem - which is that abusing spouses is not acceptable and the politicians come up with laws that are extreme to appeal to a small group of people (Divisive politics). People need to be educated on the ill-effects of domestic abuse rather trying band -aid solutions and thinking that would solve the problem for ever. The link at the bottom of the blog takes to you a video - An interview with Renuka Choudary. It has 3 parts, watch it and see if it makes sense.

Cara, I agree people should get down to the root of the problem but I disagree when you say the law appeals to a small group of people. And it is not a question of appealing - this law could actually help a lot of women in India. As you said there are parts of other laws under which marital disputes could be sorted out but they have not been effective. The point is if a man is truly innocent then he shouldnt be scared of anything. Majority of women in India do not go complaining to cops if there are any disputes at home. The fact that a woman has gone to cops means something is seriously wrong with her marital life. It is not so same in the US. Without sounding cliched - Indian culture does come into play here. Can there be some woman who could do this intentionally to harm a guy - sure. But is it going to help majority of women in India - most definitely.
